If you want to achieve more of your personal goals and dreams along your life and self-development journey, you must identify and remove the biggest obstacle standing in your way: your limiting beliefs.
The definition of a belief is the acceptance that something is true, especially without proof. A belief is a feeling of conviction about certain aspects of life. Most of our beliefs are thoughts repeated, based on the past and came from other people such as family, parents, teachers and others. The law of attraction states that “like attracts like” which explains how we are consistently attracting examples to support our thoughts and our beliefs.
Beliefs dominate us because of thinking in the same thought so many times, which led to become part of our automatic self-talk and subconscious mind.
Limiting beliefs keep us from thinking the thoughts that will attract the life we want, and from taking action to move toward the life of our dreams. Limiting Beliefs hold us back. Although, studies show that beliefs can be changed once we identify them and realize that they no longer serve us.
Can you think of a time in the past when you believed something that you don’t believe anymore? Perhaps you believed that women cannot be soldiers. Then you found out that due to gender equality women can do any job they choose.
Examples of limiting beliefs include:
In order to change our limiting beliefs, we must start by identifying them and acknowledging their existence. Here are few steps that will help you target these hidden obstacles.
Take a moment to identify and write down three of your beliefs that fit those examples. Then start asking questions to challenge them.
How do I know if this is a limiting belief?
The easiest way to know if something is a limiting belief, when you don’t feel good when you say It. Ask yourself if this belief putting a barrier between you and the life that you want?
Take another moment to write how your limiting beliefs are keeping you from the life you want to live. What are you losing if you continue to believe them?
How to Crush Your Limiting Beliefs?
Most limiting beliefs don’t hold up when we take a close look at them.
Which of the limiting beliefs you identified earlier do you want to let go of? Which one is weighing you down the most? Start with that.
The first step in crushing the limiting belief is to simply ask yourself “Is this true?” Am I certain that it is true under all circumstance?
In the second step list three examples of where/when it is not true?
This is a very important step as you will never be able to think it again without doubt.
In the third step ask yourself If you were realizing the life, you really want, what would you be thinking? What would your belief say?
Write down your new belief. Once you have changed all your limiting beliefs to positive statements (affirmations) start repeating them to yourself as often as you can. It is important that you accompany these affirmations with a good, exciting feeling. Once your energy and thoughts are aligned, your subconscious mind will accept the new belief easily.
How to Keep Moving Forward?
You are going to make small moves towards your new belief and begin shifting your focus towards what you want and not to what you don’t want.
Decide what you want the result to be. Write your goal in the present tense at the top of a paper.
Ex. I have a satisfying job where I use my talents to help people and get paid well for it.
Starting at the bottom of the page write the numbers 1 to 12. 12 is at the top near your goal.
Beginning with number 1 write something related to your goal that you truly believe right now.
1. I have attracted things that I want into my life in the past.
2. I enjoy working as a ……………… and it makes me feel good.
3. Other people in this field are getting paid well.
Keep moving up the ladder. It will get easier as you realize you have a lot of supporting thoughts already.
Now that you know how easy and fun it is to move past your limiting beliefs, we suggest to start using this technique for all limiting beliefs that are standing in your way.
