Why failure is our best teacher and how to learn the best out of it

We are all a set of EXPERIMENTS…We Fail, We Win and We Learn.

When people fail, they feel threatened and tune out. Negative experiences are attention-grabbing, frustrating and demotivating.

The response to failing may depend on people experiences and they react differently, for example

  • Some tend to ignore failure when it’s safe to do so
  • Some look away to protect their egos, and as a result they don’t learn
  • Some believe they can’t lose; they deny failure and   keep on performing trying to make everything polished and perfect
  • Some think that failure is not falling down yet refuse to get up
  • Some just quit after failing
  • On the other hand, when failures are so large that they cannot be safely ignored, people do tune in, pay attention to failure and learn a lot from it.

Research shows that when it comes to learning, Failure may just be The Best Teacher than Success and the knowledge gained from our failures lasts longer than those from our successes.

Moreover, Successful people reflecting on their journeys advise us to “fail forward.”

Let’s Embrace Failure and learn the best out of it !!!

  • Don’t be Afraid to fail. Many people are frightened of what others will think about them if they misstep towards their goals, personal relations, careers, etc.. And as a result they stop perusing their dreams or, worse they don’t take action in the first place.

  • Avoid the “feared failure “ : Some people are afraid to endure the pain of falling and so, they make fears THEIR REALITY. Failure is not a state of being, it’s only temporary. The Ups & Downs are normal in life and the down cycle is where we do most growth...

  • Recognize the difference between Quitting and Failing: Failure is a process but quitting is a losing! Thomas Edison was hearing-impaired, and his teachers said he was “too stupid to learn anything.” Imagine if Edison quit working on the light bulb after the first failure. The world would be a different place! After inventing the light bulb, he stated, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

  •  Accept failure as a part of life: If we accept failure as part of life rather than something we try to avoid all the time, it can make a big difference in the way we choose to live our lives.”

  • Try and Fail: People are often so afraid they’ll fail at something that they don’t try. Everyone has failed at something in his or her life, but not everyone tries again and again. It’s better to try and fail than failing to try.
  • Appreciate our strengths and limitations: This means we increasingly step into our true self and recognize our resources, our capabilities, so when falling will have clarity and we will be able to understand the roots and causes of failing.

  • Learn from it! Never a Failure, Always a Lesson: Making mistakes is OK, as long as the same one isn’t made many times and we learn from it. Failing is not the opposite of success, but a stepping stone to it. Simply, we can figure out what went wrong and what we could do differently, then do it without letting excuses or negative thinking get in our way.

  • Adopt a Growth Mindset: Brain can grow and that our abilities are not fixed but open to improvement.
