How to Approach Recruiters

One of the useful ways to help you find a job is to communicate with recruiters and human resources managers, or what is known as the HR department.

And every time you want to get in touch with someone from HR, in person or online (through email, social media, or over the phone), make sure you do it properly, and in a professional manner.

Here are some ways to help you with this:

  • Pay attention to your behavior: make sure that the way you communicate and your introduction is polite, respectful, and friendly, e.g. always start with a greeting such as: Hello, sir, to Mr. / Mrs. (...)

  • Show that you care: Always use phrases such as "I hope you are doing well."

  • Don't be shy or pessimistic: Don't think that the recruiter won't answer you or accept your message, but always stay positive, and show your confidence.

  • Introduce yourself: talk about yourself and your profile briefly, and make sure the person you meet does not get bored of the conversation between you two.

  • Don't raise your expectations: Always remember that the human resources manager may try to hire you, but they can't guarantee that it will happen.

  • Accept what is available in the labor market: Recruiters may have some available jobs that are close to the job you are looking for, so you can accept what is currently available in the labor market.

  • Make an impact: try to build a relationship with the people you meet, and show them a strong side of your profile that makes them remember you (for example, excellent English skills).

  • Leave your CV in their database: in case they forget you in the future, your CV will be saved in their files for review.

  • Show some appreciation: Thank those who met you for their time and effort.

Remember that following these steps will increase your chances of getting a job, and make you stand out among other people who have applied for the job, and who are not following this strategy correctly.
